Unexpected Fate (Hope Town, #1)

by Harper Sloan

'Unexpected Fate is a fun, sexy, guilty-pleasure read with a good mix of angst, sass and swoon.'

This is my first read by Harper Sloan. Yes, I know... I'm late to the party and I am kicking myself for not reading the Corps Security series, but it didn't dampen the experience because I thoroughly enjoyed Unexpected Fate and now have a secret man crush on Daddy Axel. Come to Momma, baby! :D

This story tells the tale of Little Princess, Dani Reid and Cohen Cage. Both having grown up together in one big happy extended family, they have always had an electrifying connection since infancy. Now adults, they can no longer deny each-other as they embark on a secret one night love affair before Cohen is deployed on a 7-month mission overseas with a promise to pick up where they left off on his return.

With her flamboyant hair salon owner fronting a new reality TV show, Dani's life takes a strange and shocking turn when cameras take over the workplace and a secret admirer that starts out quite innocently turns deeply sinister.

Missing Cohen and having life's little surprises to contend with, Dani leans on her family and friends for support, but it's not long before the solid foundations put in place start to fall, and the love that Dani and Cohen share, may just be the one thing that destroys everything...

Unexpected Fate is a heart-warming friends to lovers story that melts away time. I read this in two sittings with a big goofy smile on my face, until the moment when things get serious and that added injection of crazy stalker angst gave this book its extra edge.

I loved the characters, and even though there were certain elements of the story that were highly predictable, I enjoyed it nonetheless because it didn't try too hard and sometimes you just want that in a read. The story flowed well and the banter was fun. The love scenes were cold shower worthy too! Cohen Cage is a man on a mission, and he does his job well, ladies!

Looking forward to book two. Read it!

Book 1 in the new Hope Town series. Fans of Harper Sloan's Corps security series will be pleased to know this is a spin-off from that awesome series.

Dani is a happy girl living with her loving family and close extended friends. She is absolutely adored by her father Axel, even if his overly protective nature means that dating boys is off the agenda. Dani however, isn't interested in boys her own age. She has always been in love with Cohen Cage, close family friend and best friend of her brother Nate. He is the only man trusted to be within spitting distance, but he has never reciprocated Dani's feelings... or has he?

Cohen Cage has followed his father's footsteps into the special forces. His family are his world and alongside the rest of his tight knit group, he knows how lucky he is. One weakness Cohen has though is Dani-girl. Never able to act on his growing feelings for her because of the age gap, he has made sure to remain close and be a friend if nothing else. He knows she has feelings for him, and although he rejected her many years ago, the tangible feelings that they both have for each other are getting harder and harder to ignore; especially as Dani-girl is now no longer a girl but all woman.

How will their families react if they finally give into the feelings they have held for each other for so long? And if it doesn't work, how will the fallout effect the people that they love and admires most in the world as well as their lifelong friendship?

What a brilliant start to a new series. I kind of went into this blind, after having this on my TBR for a few weeks. I have read and loved the Corps Security series and was sad to say goodbye to the characters I had grown to love. I was then lucky enough to meet the author who told me that this was in fact a spin-off. Let me tell you, I bumped this baby up my list. How glad am I that I did.

Dani and Cohen's love is so special and their story is the type that makes your heart flutter. It was so nice to read about the next generation, especially Cohen, who I always had a soft spot for in the previous series. He is truly Dani's hero and this story really is about two people destined to be together. Of course, we get to see our old friends too. Particularly Axel, who is as alpha as ever and determined to protect his "Little Princess"

You can read Unexpected Fate if you haven't read the previous series. Princess Kelly did exactly that and really enjoyed it. I have to be honest though and say that for me, the fact that I already new these characters was what made it such a good read for me. It felt like I was spending time with old friends, and meant I slipped back into their world immediately. So do yourself a favour and read Corps Security, I think that it not only enrich your reading experience of this book, but also give you a chance to read the brilliant books that have inspired it.

For fans of Corps Security, you will devour this book. For those new to Harper Sloan, you will enjoy her relaxed and flowing writing style and loveabe characters. I now look forward to book 2, their are certainly a lot of offspring to get through...YAY!!

Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.
