Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark, #1) by Pepper Winters

Synopsis

A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to grief, slavery, and non-consensual sex. A story about finding love in the strangest of places, a will of iron that grows from necessity, and forgiveness that may not be enough.

“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect.
Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

Tears of Tess is one dark erotica that pushes boundaries to the point of pain. This story hurts, it breaks, it consumes and doesn't let go. I felt myself drowning along with my tears (yes, an investment in tissues is wise) but Tess' spirit, her fire, gave me the strength to continue on her journey. I couldn't have stopped if I tried because I was that scared little bird with clipped wings that finally felt what it was to fly, when Q Mercer, sexually controlling billionaire business mogul, set me free. Yes, this may be her story but I lived it and survived with my heart still intact! A true testament to Pepper Winters writing - it is spectacular. She is an evil genius! The first person narrative make for a shocking, full embodied read that set my book lovin’ soul on fire!

Tess' voice is so strong, her light resonant even in the darkest of times. I love dark, angsty reads, to dip my mind into dark infested waters, but I didn't just take a toe dip with this one, I fell in headfirst and submerged to the deepest, darkest depths, which left me gasping and breathless.

Tess Snow goes from a numb, abandoned, sexually suppressed girl just going through the notions of living day-today; of having a beautiful boyfriend who just doesn’t do it for her in the bedroom, to kidnapped captive in Mexico to esclave in France, Tess Snow' s journey to find freedom is an experience you will never forget. And maybe not one you would expect if going into this book blind!

Q Mercer – a man struggling to come to terms with his deep desires. The darkness calls incessantly but he knows if he were to unleash the monster, someone could end up hurt, or even worse, dead. Never has he hurt a woman, but then never has he loved another - he isn’t capable of it. Slave number 58 is different, she isn’t broken like the others, she is a spitting dragon, her fight stoking his inner fire, setting a new course in motion - she’s about to be introduced into a world where there are no rules except one… to obey!

I've had a taste of forbidden sin at it’s finest, and yet with Q Mercer, I can't help but feel intimidated by him. His animal magnetism is persuasive but don’t be fooled, is no book boyfriend... this is a man who holds an insatiable darkness within. I'm apprehensive and, dare I say it, rather excited to see how far he takes it in Quintessentially Q. Will he finally tame the monster that lurks beneath, or unleash it with wanton abandon? Well, I guess there is only one way to find out... book two, here I come!
