Rusty Nailed (Cocktail, #2) by Alice Clayton

Synopsis

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

This is the sequel to the hugely successful Wallbanger and book 2 in the Cocktails series. For that reason, DO NOT read this without the pleasure of reading Wallbanger first.

I did a little jig when this landed on my kindle. I loved the fabulous Wallbanger; Simon and Caroline were such great characters and it was a tale told with a good dose of humour as well. So where had life taken Wallbanger and his Nightie girl? I couldn't wait to find out.

This book takes place a year after we last spent time with our couple. Simon is still off travelling the globe, capturing the perfect moments on camera and Caroline is still at Jillian designs. They are still neighbours but tend to spend what time they do have together either on location with Simon's job or at each others apartments. For a lot of people this wouldn't work, but for this couple it works perfectly. Life is suddenly about to change for our H/h though. life has a habit of changing and we have to learn to adapt and compromise.

Will Simon be able to open up about his past? How will Caroline manage her time, when work moves up a gear? Things are full speed a head for these 2, are they ready to enjoy the ride?

I liked catching up with this duo. They really are great characters and its always nice to get a snapshot of what happens after the HEA. Notice how I said liked... I LOVED Wallbanger, this for me wasn't in the same ball park I'm afraid. Don't misunderstand me though; I honestly did enjoy it. It just lacked the spark and shine of its predecessor. The storyline was just a bit normal for want of a better word. Nothing major happens, nothing major goes wrong, it just gives us a light and humorous look at the trials and tribulations of a 20-something couple ready to move from a partying city life to settling down, and I suppose, growing up.

I did love that we got to see a bit more of Simon's backstory, which was the thing I found most lacking in book one. I also liked the inclusion of the best friends and their relationships. It was a witty and nice light hearted read. Lets not forget that I am totally in love with Simon, (so much so that there were a few occasion when I wanted to bash Caroline over the head with my kindle) but I'm afraid to say it was just a little too long and dragged out for me. I personally think that a novella would have worked better.

If you loved Wallbanger, then you will enjoy Rusty Nailed. An easy and light hearted read!

P.S Don't worry Clive is back as well!
