Ride Steady (Chaos, #3)
By Kristen Ashley
The ride of her life . . .
Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy---until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.
Climb on and hold tight . . .
In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa---or ride away forever . . .

Book 3 in the Chaos series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but all I can say is that you would be crazy not to read the series as it has been written; I include Motorcycle Man from Kristen's Dream Man series when I say that. These books are about the various members of the Chaos MC and you will get a much deeper understanding and connection to the personalities and club dynamics if you read the series as a whole.
Ride Steady is a journey. A journey that takes place over many years and one that is a struggle for the surly, closed off and dark Chaos brother Joker. This story takes you back to the childhood of Carson Steele. Quiet but a genuinely nice teenager, all he wants is to be happy. Living with a abusive father, he idolises a man he watches work with his son at Ride, the local garage. Intelligent and a very talented artist, he has very few around him who care, but those he has are important to him; including the girl that could be his everything, unlike the silly girls that throw themselves at him daily. But like many others she doesn't see him through the cheap clothes and bruises that he wears like war paint. When his father tries to give him one too many beatings he knows its time to put his escape plan into action; even if it means leaving behind the only people who care and his education. It time to find his happiness and place in life; he intends to do just that.
Carissa Teodoro has known tragedy in her young life, but life is on the up now. The most popular girl in school and in a relationship with the star QB, this cheerleader and homecoming queen looks to have the world at her feet; even if she can't quite bring herself to be the mean girl that her friends and classmates expect her to be. A true romantic at heart, she believes in HEA's and although the loss of her mother to cancer hits hard, with the support of her affluent boyfriend and loyal friends she will make it through. It's just a shame that she doesn't wholeheartedly believe that.
Fast forward a good few years and life has changed for both our characters. Carson is no more and Joker is now in his place. A different man, but one that has what he always wanted - a family; albeit a unconventional one. Carissa however, has had her family torn apart. Now divorced and a single mum to her 8 month old son Travis, her knight in shining armour turned into the black knight and she fights daily to provide for her child and for custody of him against her ex who is out to destroy her. With mounting legal debts she finds herself a long way from the happiness and life she always dreamed of.
A chance meeting between Joker and Carissa reignites feelings that they had both decided had no place in their new lives. They could be the missing piece in each others puzzle, or they could be just another complication they don't have time for.
Wow, that was difficult. This was not an easy storyline to summarise. Why? Because it's a Kristen Ashley book of course! When I say this is a journey, it honestly is. Both characters have had such pain in their lives and of course the complications that those bring. One however, is optimistic and still holds out the hope for love and happiness, whereas the other has given up on love and finding the one person that you can find your true place with. As with all of the books in this series, it is EPIC!
I have to tell you that this is very different to what I usually like to see in my MC romances. Yes, you have some club life and politics - the stuff I usually require in truck loads - but it doesn't centralise the story around this element. The stories in this series focus on the characters and their lives. Taking us along for the ride as their lives change and grow throughout the books, it is one of my favourite MC series for that reason - because it is so different to the others. The characters have so much light and shade and the storylines have so much depth that they absorb you into the pages as you quickly turn them to see what will happen next. Tack, the club president is the caring father of a merry band of brothers. He rules them with an iron rod, but with love and care for them as individuals. He is kick arse and one of the best examples of a club president in this genre. He is the father figure that Joker lacked throughout his childhood and has become a saviour to him as an adult.
This book for me is the best of a brilliant series so far. I am so happy we don't have to wait too long for High's book, which will be released later this year. This series pulls you in and wraps you up in the fabulous characters that Kristen has created. An absolute MUST READ addition to a MUST READ series. A MC book hangover has took over!!

Reading Kristen Ashley is like coming home... that feeling you know you get of peace, excitement, love.... (sigh)
In this installment of the Chaos MC, we get Joker's story... god I was waiting for this one!!
Joker, formally Carson Steele, was a very broken and abused boy... who had lost everything, been no one, and didn't think anything mattered or anyone would ever love him. He coped as best he could with a mother who abandoned him, a father who severely abused him... but even with all that.. his inner star still shone bright.. he just didn't believe it even existed.
Carissa Teodoro, Highschool "IT" girl... beautiful, smart, and truly sweet. She has lived through tragedy... losing her mother and sister... being used and mistreated by her high school sweetheart and future husband... even during all of life threw her way... she refused to give in to the darkness...
Fate is just funny... on one of her lowest moments... a point where she thought she could take no more... Her Knight in shining armor.. ok.. more like a bad ass biker roars up on his bike to help her.. not just in that situation.. but in her life! It is none other than Carson... her high school crush...
Joker, can not believe that Carissa is in his life... he will walk through fire for her... she will be his shining light of healing...
Beautifully well written, with a story line that just leaves you breathless.. from the danger, intrigue, twists, and hot hot scenes! Kristen Ashley NEVER disappoints!! We get the whole gang... everyone makes an appearance.. and some are deep in the story...
Can Not Wait for the rest!!!
