Ready, Willing and Abel (Passion in Paradise: The Men of the McKinnon Sisters #3)
by Sarah O'Rourke
Book 3 in the Passion in Paradise: The Men of the McKinnon Sisters series. I read this book as a standalone, but I would recommend you read it as part of the series… but more on that later.
They say there is a fine line between love and hate. Patience McKinnon can attest to that whole heartedly. A free spirit that is known for her blunt and unfiltered mouth, she can control any situation just by opening it. But the one person she can’t control is the person that undoes her the most. He broke her heart 3 years ago by taking her virginity without a second thought, hence the reason she despises Abel Turner with such passion. Except now she has even more reason to hate the damn man… or is it more about protecting her heart?
Abel Turner has become a successful attorney. Shame that success doesn't run into his personal life. Engaged to be married to local girl Angie, he was gutted when it ended over 3 years ago. Not because of the end of the relationship as such, more the damaged it did to his male pride when he found out she had been sleeping with anyone willing during their courtship. To have the one girl he has never been able to get off his mind tell him, well that made the blow that much worse. He knows he has done wrong by Patience and if it takes him a lifetime, he will finally get her back in his bed… forever.
I night, 2 blues lines and a man and woman that need to forget the mistakes of the past and move forward into the future. Will they find the blissful middle between the two opposing emotions?
This is my first Sarah O’ Rourke book and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Filled with great characters and peppered with real humour, I enjoyed it.
Patience and Abel are just great characters. Patience is one of four sisters, one of which is married to Abel’s twin brother Cain. They have been through drama aplenty, but they’re a real strong family unit and have a great support network of friends and loved ones around them. Patience is a strong, mouthy, says it how it is type of girl; but chip away at the surface and she is just a woman that wants to be loved by a man that broke her heart in the past. Abel on the other hand is quite controlled and very patient of the woman that stole his heart many years ago. He is determined to finally win Patience over, and bless him he really does jump through every hoop she places in front of him.
But this book isn't all about sunshine, romance and unicorns. No, this book also contains some serious drama and real life situations that have effected all the McKinnon sisters in some way, shape or form. And in some respect this is why I have given the book 3.75 crowns as oppose to 4. I haven’t read the previous books in the series and I honestly do think this effected the overall reading experience. There is a lot of back story going on and the book dives straight into the main characters of this book and their story without giving you much of that. That is by no means the authors fault, this book is a good one (although I did find the chapters overly long at times – I like my coffee breaks). If anything it is my fault, as I didn't read Harmony or Faith’s book first. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t get lost if you don’t read them prior to this, however, I can only recommend you do as I believe it would take this book to another level, adding a depth to the story that I didn't get.
Having said all that, it is a really well written book and it has left me looking forward to Honor’s story; bless her if anyone deserves a HEA it is the youngest McKinnon sister.
A humorous romance filled read with the best type of family drama. Just don’t make my mistake, read the series from the start.
Emma - 3.75 Crowns
Patience McKinnon has never even tried to live up to her unfortunate name. Her sisters would gladly point out that she’s impetuous, fickle, and stubborn to a fault. History has taught her that she’s the only one, besides those crazy sisters, that has her best interests at heart...and she’s not about to let down her guard and let herself get hurt. She did that once...and that was more than enough. Next time, she’s fairly certain that she’d rather just shoot first and ask questions later, thank you very much!
Enter Abel Turner. The suave town attorney has had Patience McKinnon in his sights for years. Sure, he strayed along the way, but he’s always come back to the beautiful blonde bartender that fills his dreams and drives him crazy at the same time. After all, he owes her...and he plans to rectify the bad impression he made in the past with a humdinger of a sensual night.
But that one night may just change both of their worlds...forever. Will Patience overcome her insecurities? And will Abel ever convince her to trust him again?
Join the entire town of Paradise and the intrepid McKinnon sisters in this humorous and poignant erotica romance! Standalone.
