Quintessentially Q (Monsters in the Dark, #2) by Pepper Winters

Synopsis

“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… screwed up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs do make a right."

Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

This is a story of eroticism, horror, and sweet tragedy. It contains graphic scenes, but there’s always light in the darkness.

There are not many books that have successfully succeeded in knocking me flat on my arse, but this one really did a number on me! I thought Tears of Tess was dark, but holy hell, QQ just took it to a whole new level. This book is fucking brutal! I mean horrifically violent, blood thirsty and gutwrenching agony. It hurt so much by 60% I had to literally stop and take a breather - compose myself before jumping back in because as much as parts of this book made for uncomfortable reading, its execution is faultless.

The storyline switches at breakneck speed making it completely unpredictable and I loved that. I was on the edge of my seat gripping my kindle throughout most of this book with an expression of 'WTF just happened?' So I think it's safe to say this second instalment rivals the first in its angst factor and yet, by this point, I was so invested in the characters that it was virtually impossible to step away from.

We get duel POV in this one which is a real gem as we get a closer glimpse into Q' s psyche, allowing the reader to connect to his character on a more personal level.

Pepper Winters is a gutsy writer that lets nothing stand in her way. She is the Queen of Darkness and a literary evil genius who has made my favourite author list. I won't be forgetting this series anytime soon. In-fact, after the turmoil she put me through, I'm off to pour myself a stiff vodka.

Be brave and jump in! This may be dark, upsetting and a little disturbing in places but there is good here too. The love and the sacrifices made are poignant and gives the overall story a solid base to pull strength from, because trust me... you'll need it!

Utterly BRILLIANT!!!
