Off The Record (Record, #1) by K.A Linde
Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.
Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.
But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.
Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

Well this is my 1st book by K.A Linde.. and what a book to introduce me to this author.
Off the record is the story of Liz Dougherty a college newspaper reporter concentrating on local politics. The book starts with Liz attending the press conference of Brady Maxwell. Brady is a young and charismatic State Senator who is announcing his intention to run for congress. He is absolutely stunning to look at, comes from a political family and is young enough to be the perfect candidate for Liz and her readers... problem is, he may be very easy on the eye but as far as Liz is concerned his political beliefs are the complete opposite to hers.
When Liz asks Brady a difficult question during the conference.. sparks fly and Brady's interest in Liz begins. Brady cannot forget the young reporter that has left a impression on him.. and Liz can't believe that even though she disagrees with everything Brady is about, she can feel a connection with him. So when Brady addresses the obvious sexual attraction and offers Liz a no strings relationship.. behind closed doors and away from the cameras and politics, following an awesome one night stand.
What will Liz do? She is obviously attracted to him, but with his busy schedule, he cant been seen with a political reporter as much as she cannot be seen in a relationship with a candidate she is directly reporting on. There is also Liz's editor Hayden Lane who she has been crushing on for 2 years and who has now decided to notice her. Can it work? Can they leave feelings at the door? Can Brady convince liz he is a man that can be trusted? Will Liz end up feeling like the scarlet woman? You're just going to have to read it to find out! ;)
I loved this book. It drew me in very quickly due to the fact that Liz is a really likeable character and that it isn't your usual insta-love but more insta-lust! I loved Brady!! Ok, if I am honest he does treat Liz awfully at times but I got past that and looked at the reasons and saw how actually from the beginning you saw something brewing with him. Hayden Lane is also a really likeable character, although I would say that I did find the blurb misleading to a degree. I wouldn't say it is a love triangle and the blurb points to that.
Hayden isn't featured throughout the book but is always in the background. As there is to be a 2nd book, I expect that he will feature more heavily allowing him further character development.
Off The Record was romantic, full of angst and steamy without being over the top, with an interesting storyline. My only complaint would be that it centred around U.S politics, being a Brit I found it a little confusing at times and it does feature quite heavily, especially in the 1st few chapters. Once I got my head around that, I connected to the characters to such a degree that it wasn't an issue anymore.
If you are looking for a slight twist on the rich guy/girl next door then this is the book for you. The storyline and characters were memorable and I am itching for the next instalment (always a good sign). This is the 1st book in a series, so yes you've guessed it... Cliffhanger!! :( It didn't leave me with my heart in my mouth or thinking WTF... more of a ''I need to read book 2, when's it released'' feeling... I commend the author for being able to achieve that.
I truly look forward to book 2 and to reading more of Ms Linde's work in the near future.
P.S Team Brady <3
