Mine ( Real, #2) by Katy Evans
He's mine, and I'm his.
Our love is all-consuming, powerful,
imperfect, and real...
In the international bestseller REAL, the unstoppable bad boy of the Underground fighting circuit finally met his match. Hired to keep him in prime condition, Brooke Dumas unleashed a primal desire in Remington "Riptide" Tate as vital as the air he breathes... and now he can't live without her.
Brooke never imagined she would end up with the man who is every woman's dream, but not all dreams end happily ever after, and just when they need each other the most, she is torn away from his side. Now with distance and darkness between them, the only thing left is to fight for the love of the man she calls MINE.

"My fighter. He fights everything, even himself, but I love that he's never fought loving me." - Brooke Dumas
"You," he says, his voice terse and commanding, "are going to love me until I die. I'm going to make you love me even if it hurts, and when it hurts, I'm going to make it better, Brooke
....You're going to fucking love me if it kills us." - Remy 'Riptide' Tate
Remy 'Riptide' Tate has consumed my mind, my soul and my book lovin' beating heart over the last few days. I cannot seem to get enough of this tortured man as he fights like a lion and fucks like a beast to help keep his darkness at bay, and his feet firmly planted on the ground. Remy has never been one to hold any punches, but even his reciprocated love for Brooke Dumas... his girl, his REAL, cannot always keep the demons away - especially when confronted with old faces and crippling memories of his past.
In MINE we get to see the real Remy through Brooke's eyes as she delivers, in her own voice, another chapter in their journey. His complexity is astounding and yet his love for Brooke is what really shines through, as the man fights his illness and tries to set that broken young boy inside, free.
He doesn't feel worthy of the woman who has become his REAL, as he struggles to overcome the crushing force of her departure over two months ago. Brooke has a lot to make up for and she knows it! Feeling disgusted with herself at abandoning him when he needed her most, she longs to prove to him that he can put his trust back into the love that threatened to destroy them both, one more time. But little do they know, their relationship is about to elevate to all-new heights, because she's about to drop the biggest bombshell of all!
This sequel was written so much more fluently than REAL which makes me think that Katy Evans listened to her readers when confronted with the repetitive clenching and scenting that run throughout the first book - although still very evident in some scenes, the way they were written in MINE just compelled and captivated me - pulled me under and enveloped me in nothing but the crushing love and possessive need they feel for one another and I enjoyed every second of it... because this is them! This is how they communicate. These scenes of reconnection helped me understand them both more fully and I drowned in the knowledge of that, and basked in the fuzzy and warm feelings that it gave me.
Brooke is very aware of the strong hold that Remy has, not only on her but on his captive audience, as her insecurities threaten to overwhelm her. My only gripe is as much as I could connect to her inner anger and jealous episodes (there were many), it was a little overworked which made her character come across a little whiney - almost ungrateful to be given her second chance. Afterall all, she knew what she was signing up for! It was up to our boy time and time again to iron out the creases and prove to her that his love for her is forever.
With the continued threat of Benny 'the Scorpion' Black at the forefront of their minds, the new season becomes challenging and thwart with danger when Brooke is attacked. Remy is furious, and as the black starts to take over he knows that only one thing can stop this relentless goading, and that is to take the power back....
And he has won.
He has won over my heart.
I am ruined for others!
Remy, throughout all of his many faults is everything I look for in a tortured alpha-male type protagonist. He has the ability to render you speechless one moment, rip your heart out the next, then patch it all back together again with just a look, a word, an action... and seal it with a kiss.
There is nothing more satisfying than snuggling up with a kindle on a dreary, rainy weekend and experiencing that in its full entirety, because I couldn’t put this sequel down once I started it. I inhaled these two books like a starved woman cutting into a big fat juicy streak. Yes ladies, this man meat absolute prime rib!
And, I can’t believe I just said that!
It’s official. I’m a RIPTIDE GROUPIE and I wouldn’t have it any other way! ;)
Ah, you get the idea! ;)
A TOTAL KNOCKOUT!
