Losing Control (Kerr Chronicles, #1)
by Jen Frederick
I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.
Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.
Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.
This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

Book 1 in the Kerr Chronicles
There is nothing quite like a alpha male in need of revenge! Well that's exactly what I thought when Losing Control landed on my kindle. I will be honest, I have had this author on my TBR for ages with her other series The Woodlands. Now, any avid reader knows that with so many amazing authors and titles to choose from often books on your TBR get overlooked. I will admit that that is exactly what had happened with Jen Frederick. When I read the synopsis for this book I knew that I would have to make Losing Control my first Ms Frederick read, if only because I have wanted to read one of her books for ages; rest assured it didn't disappoint!
The story is told from Victoria Corielli's POV. A 25 year old woman in a desperate need to save her mother from the recurrence of the Cancer that already has them drowning in debt. We join the story as Victoria otherwise known as Tiny to her family comforts her mother following the diagnosis. Knowing that her job as a bicycle courier around New York City isn't going to pay even there basic bills never mind the medical expenses, she approaches her decidedly shady and former step-brother for help. Knowing that the deliveries she makes for him aren't exactly above board or legal for that matter, but feeling the desperation to move her mother in a new apartment that will make her life easier, she excepts a specific or special project with a client of Malcolm's.
Enter Ian Kerr, Billionaire business man and someone she has met before. When Ian rejects Victoria for the "special Project" she knows it is only a matter of time before her mother loses her spirit and indeed the fight for her life.
Will Victoria be able to persuade the dashing and enigmatic Ian to work with her? Can Ian get Victoria into his bed? And what exactly is this "special project"?
I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit of a surprise actually as after reading the synopsis I expected Ian's character to be the dark brooding type. He is in fact the total opposite. Yes he is a dominant, alpha male who is used to getting what he wants and he seriously wants his "bunny" however he is also this protective, caring and kind person who is looking for love but is also out to seek revenge on someone who has done him wrong. I liked him a lot and I am sure as a reader you will too.
Victoria/Tiny is quite a complex character really. Ultimately she loves her mother, who has single handedly raised her following the death of her father over 20 years ago. She will do anything do anything for her, but she is also a woman in her prime and Ian is her drug of choice. Strong but full of self doubt due to her struggle with dyslexia, she is constantly waiting for Ian to realise that she isn't worth it. She has a very complicated relationship with Malcolm her step-brother which I would have liked to see a little more of; if anything was lacking it was that in my opinion. I hope the author explores him as a character a little more in the next book (their relationship, his connection with Ian etc..)
Of course there is the whole "special project" which is a real slow burner... it added a little spice and mystery to the book, gave it a real edge of suspense. It was certainly a new take on the billionaire/girl next door romance and let me assure you there is huge steam factor... Ian is HOT!!
To sum it up, a really well written and different take of a popular and well loved theme. I certainly look forward to book 2, Taking Control to see where the story goes and if the revenge Ian seeks remains a priority or whether a life enriched with love eases the need to pursue it.
Well done Ms Frederick, I certainly will be bumping your other books back up my TBR and your books will never be overlooked in the future.
