One hundred percent trouble, and off the scale sexy.
Wow! This second book and final chapter in Sophie and Lucien's story was definitely a step up from its predecessor. More emotional projection, further character depth and a fulfilling storyline made this a better read all round.
I feel both book 1 and 2 would have worked better as a full stand-alone read, however the anticipation to continue is what made me delve straight back into that cliffhanger, as we follow Sophie and Lucien on the next chapter of their ‘sexual’ adventure.
From England to Paris, Norway and back, Sophie proves she has what it takes to say goodbye to the man who cast her aside for another and move on with her life; only this time she is keeping a distance to the viking-like god who has turned her world upside down, as she finds the freedom and strength to make her own decisions.
Lucien is a man in denial. Sophie is under his skin and he knows it but he fobs it off as an 'addiction' more than 'attraction,' only this time Sophie is taking no prisoners as she learns the man behind the facade. She understands what it means to be played as a second fiddle to another and knows in her heart that Lucien, through all of his faults, is hiding secrets from his past.
Working to break down the walls surrounding his confused mind and jaded heart, she opens herself back up for further rejection in the hope she can reach inside of not only her boss and her attentive and experienced lover, but the man she has come to regard as friend.
When Lucien's past catches up with him in the form of a letter, emotions run high when he hears the words he told her never to mutter, so he does the only thing he can think of... he runs . A few months ago, Sophie would have crumbled completely, she almost does... then she remembers she isn't the same scared Sophie anymore as she makes a choice - one that takes not only herself, but Lucien completely by surprise.
Lucien was always so mysterious in Knight and Play, we saw the affectionate and attentive side, so the notion of being able to love was always there; his actions spoke volumes and yet he refused to embrace or voice them aloud. The hurt that lingers beneath is more palpable in this book as Sophie takes the reigns and turns his world on its head and not the other way around. It made a nice change and made me fall in love with both these characters all over again.
Knight and Stay was a great progression on from Knight and Play and I will continue with Kara and Dylan’s story in Knight and Day, next. <3
