In The Firelight by Sibylla Matilde
She found him on a snowy night. He sparked her desires and inflamed her dreams. Independent and feisty, Shea Madison has a tussle on her hands. Living in and loving her quiet little corner of Montana, she’s fiercely determined to fight a real estate developer trying to turn her quaint little mountain town into a touristy ski resort. So, when an outsider shows up to study the effects on the area, she instantly attempts to sway his impression… even if it means a little harmless flirting with the enticing visitor.
Rhys Weland’s charade has one purpose—to bring the locals around to the idea of the resort, primarily the ringleader, Ms. Shea Madison. Embroiled in his deception, he’s stunned by the feelings she draws from deep inside him. Her integrity and sincerity quickly have him second-guessing his twisted morals. Her spirit arouses his soul. Her sensuality steals his breath.
In the dark of the night, in the warmth of the fire, the passion smoldering between them combusts. But just when it all seems to make sense, one small stubborn mistake shreds the fragile bond between them. Will an impetuous act reignite their flame, or will their love vanish like sparks in the air?

In The Firelight will spark that inner fire. Sibylla Matilde is fast becoming one of my favourite go-to writers for pure unadulterated guilty fun. Her writing is passionate, salacious and titillating but with substance. Her characters are real, flawed but insanely likeable. Another great standalone read! - Kelly, Perusing Princesses
Shea and Rhys’ story starts in a small town in another beautiful cold Montana setting. Rhys is a glorified playboy in a suit for a notorious real estate developer who uses him as a pretty face to help sway the local decision when it comes to new developments - in this case a new ski resort on the land near Shea’s home. The log cabin holds many happy memories of her Grampa and she isn’t giving it up for nobody, not even the beautiful visitor who sets her soul on fire.
Rhys has never failed in getting a signature on the dotted line. He knows he has a job to do, as he returns to his home country in the hopes to sway this new opposition - it’s all just another day at the office.
When Shea rescues the outsider from a snow covered car by the side of the road, they both had no idea what was in store, because not only are they destined to be mortal enemies, but lovers…
With feelings comes conscience and Rhys is a stranger to both. Shea is feisty, strong, independent, if not just a little scorned. She is the challenge he has been looking for. When innocent flirting turns into a lustful affair, the whole scenario becomes embroiled in deceit and lies, and Rhys is feeling the pressure because not only is he slowly falling for his target, but running out of time.
If you are looking for a well-written lighthearted escape then this is it. There is a little angst here but nothing is overdone. The story has good flow too, Shea and Rhys didn’t jump into bed overnight, in-fact, the sexual tension was palpable, like a kindling flame that burned slowly and I loved that.
The log cabin, the sex in firelight, the small-town community is what made this book a beautiful guilty-pleasure read, and I recommend it if you have a good few hours to kill on a cold night because Sibylla Matilde knows how to get that inner fire burning, along with my libido. I'm falling in love with Montana, too. I may have to invest in a log cabin after this little number. Well...okay, maybe not, but it's nice to dream.
Another fantastic, heartfelt and erotic romance by a truly gifted writer.
