Flawed Love (House of Obsidian #2)
by Bella Jewel
Book 2 in the House of Obsidian series. This book also has links to Desolation, book 4 in the Jokers' Wrath MC series. However, Flawed Love has been written as a standalone, so you do not need to have read those books to enjoy it.
Mali is on a mission. Having heard her childhood best friend is back in town after disappearing over 10 years ago, she heads to his bar to see for herself. She is soon left heartbroken when the only boy she has ever loved doesn't recognise her. She truly thought she had been as important to him as he had been to her; obviously she was wrong.
Rainer is finally building a life for himself. After 10 years of barely surviving, he is determined to now just live. In love with a woman that has found love with another, he drifts from one hook-up to the next without commitment, promises and without the chance of getting hurt. It is an endless circle, and one he doesn't see ending soon. How can he give to someone else when he has nothing in him to give.
What starts as casual, soon turns into more. But when one is hiding the truth and one is so blind to the past, how do they move forward? And with Mali taking what she can get and Rainer giving as much as he can, what will the future hold?
I have looked forward to this book since meeting Rainer in Desolation. He was such an integral part of Pippa's story that I hoped he would also find his HEA.
Flawed Love is in essence a second chance romance. Told in both the past and the present. We learn of the childhood friendship that turned to more, alongside the present hurt and pain as Mali inserts herself into a very damaged and emotionally stunted Rainer's life. Your heart will break for both characters. For the absolute horror that Rainer has lived through and the pain that Mali goes through knowing that not only does he not remember her, but that he is in love with someone else.
It is an emotional story and one that I throughly enjoyed. If you have read my review of Flawed Heart, book 1 in the series, then you will know that I was a little dissapointed with that book. I don't mind telling you that I was a little concerned going in that this book would also fall short. So it pleases me hugely to say that Bella Jewel redeemed herself with Rainer's book.
If you loved Rainer in Desolation, this is an absolute MUST READ. If however, you are starting your journey with him here, get ready for an emotional angst fest. Another great Bella Jewel read!

Rainer Torrence is everything I could have wanted in my life and more.
He became my best friend when I was Thirteen years old.
From then on, we were inseparable. He was my first love and my first heartbreak.
But I always thought it was forever.
Until his Father died and things went bad.
Then suddenly, he disappeared.
Ten years and I didn’t see or hear from him.
Then came the call I’d be praying for– he was back in town.
Only the man I remembered is not him.
This man is quiet, deadly, and so incredibly beautiful.
He also doesn’t remember me.
He looks into my eyes, and he sees nothing.
So, I let him believe I’m just a girl that walked into his bar.
I let him believe I’m just a friend.
I let him use me on the cold, dark nights.
I let him believe that I am as emotionless about our relationship as he is.
I just let the secret go on and on.
But all secrets have an end, don’t they?
