Carnage - The Story of Us #1 by Lesley Jones
I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart and he owns my body and no matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, we will find a way.
"Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry" ... He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it...
"I said I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
Carnage is an edgy coming of age love story that breaks all the rules and transcends the decades. Georgia and Sean's story will stay with you long after you read the final word.
An emotional, smoking hot, gut wrenching read.
NOTE: This is part #1 of a 2 part story but can be read as a stand alone.

Real, honest, passionate storytelling that breaks all the rules. Absolutely Brilliant!
The buzz surrounding this book was palpable, everywhere I went I kept hearing about Carnage. Many of the reviews were positive, while others negative, touching base on what they thought was taboo and broke all the rules. Well… I am a rule-breaker people. I’m all about the rebel. Maybe because I rebelled a little as a teenager, or maybe because I had to grow up quick, and found my peace in music. Whatever it was, I connected with this story immediately, because my young self had been there!
Georgia and Sean’s world imploded in that one moment. Their life course written. Love, as in the word itself is renowned for being over used, thrown around, an excuse for many to patch over any indiscretions - a word with so much power it can bring even the strongest to their knees. At 11 and 13, nobody can truly understand the meaning of that passionate, unyielding, undeniable love, right? Oh no… so very wrong! If it’s meant to be, then love will find a way, and in George and Sean’s case, it found!
Embarking on that first real life-journey is overwhelming. It comes with many questions, and sometimes the key is to experiment, open your heart and just go with what it’s telling you… and yes, at only 14 and 16, that is what happened. But don’t be deterred, trust me when I say it was sympathetically done, and the emotion in its words aids you in putting trust in these kids, knowing that what they are doing is for all the rightreasons.
But Sean, along with Marley (Georgia’s Brother) also hold a very special talent in music. It’s not long before they are 18 and playing local pubs and proving they have what it takes to make it in the industry. From an 11 year old girl hanging from monkey bars, flashing her pink knickers, to the sweet 16 teenage girlfriend of the most recognisable face in their hometown, it's not long before fame takes over, and comes between the love they once thought impenetrable.
One mistake on tour destroys Georgia and Sean, and for four years they are apart. They try so hard to carry on with life as normal, with Georgia going to college and Sean and Marley making it big in the music industry. She doesn’t watch TV, doesn’t listen to the radio, the idea of even saying Sean’s name out loud is enough to render her an emotional wreck - she shuts down, and throws herself into her new business venture with her Mother in the retail fashion industry.
Enter Cameron King… a wine bar owner, entrepreneur and bad boy London gangster, oh yeah… Mr King definitely makes an impression on our emotionally stunted girl, and for the first time since Sean left, she’s finally opening her heart to another, even if it’s only a small fraction, it’s something…
Cameron is a dark horse, an alpha male who gets what he wants, but even he knows to tread carefully around the girl with the sad eyes. He knows what loss feels like, and he comes into Georgia’s life when she needed him most, and from here on out they succumb to the passion, which makes for some real sexy scenes.
But… Sean will always be there. In her mind, in her heart and her soul. Cameron is struggling, climbing an uphill battle, and when Sean finally renters her life after 4 years, the game is over.
Sean is not giving up now, he’s never letting his girl go again, and Georgia finally knows what it feels to breathe again… Love has come home, but with it so has the fame, crazy paparazzi, insane groupies, hate mail, and everything in-between, including the ex… that doesn’t seem to ever really go away.
I’m not giving you anything else with regards to the plot because the second half of this book is where the true magic lies. The characters grow, mature and finally find their way, but it’s not an ‘easy’ read by any means. This is a life journey, a story of love that at times gets incredibly messy. Every taboo is here - Underage sex, drugs, cheating, rock n roll, and my goodness that ending breaks all the rules - damn you Lesley Jones!! But… IT IS ABSOLUTELY EPIC! And I mean that wholeheartedly.
The heroine isn’t the easiest to love either, she is a princess, a total brat who never had to ask for anything. She’s selfish and at times, very inconsiderate to others but thats what gave her her edge, her flaws gave her substance - solidity.
Sean, the beautiful boy. The rock star with a heart so big, he was never afraid to show it. As a British girl myself, his little endearment made me laugh every time, I never found him to be crude or disrespectful - again, Lesley Jones really did inject some home humour into this book and I love her for it.
Cameron King is the wild card. I wasn’t sure how I felt at first, having a little triangle thrown into the mix, but it’s nowhere near what we would consider conventional, so get that ‘I hate triangles’ out of your head, because this relationship is special in its own way, although deemed to fail before it really began. I have high hopes for Mr King though, he is such a fabulous character, and somewhat a little scary. Can’t help but love a bad boy!
Apart from many of the grammatical errors, there is nothing I would change about this story. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Even the family dynamics were magic. The older Brothers who treat their sister with kid gloves, but who are far from perfect. The best friends Jimmie and Ashley who really inject some heartwarming sisterly vibes. The overbearing Irish Mother and the ‘entrepreneur’ Father who just melts your heart with the love he holds for his family, but who will likely knee cap you, just by looking at him funny. I loved this family!
I rarely write reviews this long but it’s so hard not to pour my heart out on the page, and give it to you how I see it. Be brave, go in with an open mind, and like me, you may have just found one of your favourite books of ALL TIME!
