Book 2 in the Starcrossed series. This is a continuing storyline and it is essential that you read book 1 before reading both this review and Broken Juliet.
Broken Juliet begins where Bad Romeo finished. Ethan is back. Having faced and battled his demons, his priority now is to win back Cassie; the love of his life and the only person that brought true balance to his life. However, Cassie isn't the same girl he broke all those years ago. When he left, he killed the happy go lucky, optimistic and loving girl who had adored him. Leaving a only a shell of a girl, bitter and twisted by his treatment of her.
This book explores the here and now, but once again we travel into the past to truly understand the journey that our 2 protagonists have travelled. The questions that lingered at the end of book 1 are answered head on as we become voyeurs of the past. We watch the battles Ethan faced with his trust and commitment issues, and also the ones faced by Cassie as she set about convincing Ethan of the love she had for him.
This book is a real role reversal for Ethan and Cassie. Ethan becomes the strength, the one who needs to assure Cassie that his love is not only genuine, but that he can finally be trusted. On the flip side, it is now Cassie who has deep seated trust issues and who quite rightfully doubts Ethan's decelerations of love. In the present she still loves him, but is love enough when the person you love is the one that ruined your spirit?
If you loved Bad Romeo, this is a must read. Where there were witty, often light-hearted moments in book 1, book 2 is all about the angst. It is a story of true love and of soulmates ripped apart because of inner turmoil and self-doubt. Truths are told and hurts exposed. Will forgiveness be enough to bring them back together - you will just have to read and find out.
A brilliant read and great sequel. If you love your romance with an angsty twist, this is the series for you. I now look forward to Elissa's story coming later this year.
