Not sure where my head is with this book...
It is just intense, with an assault on my mind...
I liked it...
Onto book 2

I have Stockholm's syndrome. I ended up a huge fan of Caleb and I still question why. I loved him even if he did everything in his power to make my blood boil and my stomach turn. You can feel he was struggling with his emotions and growing affection for Livvie and that only fueled my love for him. Ms. Roberts created a world that started to feel real. Someone would talk to me in my house and I would have to snap out of it - and look up from the book....It pissed me off ...it's the equivalent of going to the beach on the hottest day of the entire summer and having someone pour a bucket of ice water on you....PISSED.
I could feel Livvie's fear and I felt like I had to be there as a witness to what was happening, even as I fell for Caleb.
Complete Mindfuck of a book and I loved it

It's hard to put into words how I feel about this book. I will however endeavour to try:
This book sucked me in from chapter one, it's one that I read in an evening and finished early this morning, but I didn't have a very good night's sleep if thats anything to go by. At the 26% mark I did cry for Olivia, her ordeal by this point was heartbreaking and her emotions had me going through the emotional wringer. I felt like I was there with her - a fly on the wall, but powerless to stop it. I can only contribute this to the writing. It flows beautifully even though the subject matter is dark and contrite.
I wanted to hate Caleb with my every being, but I couldn't. He was subjected to a terrible ordeal as a young child/teenager, and you felt angry that such a beautiful child could survive such a torment.
Caleb is helping to seek revenge for a man he calls Rafiq, a Father figure who rescued him from a life of rape and torture. Olivia is the barganing chip to help close the deal. His mission is simple - Train her to become a sex slave submissive to enter the tight circle of a Russian Billionaire Businessman with a murdeous and shady past. Known for his love of Western girls, Olivia is the lifeline to seal his fate.
Along the way however we start to notice a change in his demeanour. Could this young girl be something more? Chipping at the wall of steel in his chest?
Then when you think things cannot get any worse for Olivia, things take a dramatic turn.
I will read the second book once it is published, because I NEED to know what happens to Olivia and Caleb, and how the rest of the story unfolds. If this first installment is anything to go by, it's going to be another emotional read, albeit no less brilliant i'm sure...
If you are open-minded and want a book that really grabs you in more ways than one, then I recommend reading this book. Please be warned though,it isn't for the faint hearted and is Adult literature only, 18+

Seduced in the Dark (Dark Duet #2) is the continuation in Olivia and Caleb’s journey. It is not just a rollercoaster read, it’s a vertical velocity shit storm! – Hold on tight, and DON’T. LET. GO!
Firstly, I am going to start off by saying, if you have NOT read the first book in the Dark Duet Series – ‘Captive in the Dark,’ then turn your little mouse icon around and click your little butt out of here, because you cannot read this as a standalone!
Secondly, if you have read Captive in the Dark, then you know that C.J. Roberts knows how to pack a punch, and she generally aims it right in the middle of your chest. Yes, she is one ballsy writer who doesn’t mind giving her readers a spin in the emotional wringer! But still, this book needs to come with a health warning and if it wasn’t for the fact that I love a challenge, a book that can push those ‘comfort zone’ boundaries then I would probably not have dipped my toes in these deep and dark infested waters. But I am a true believer that where there is dark… there is always light.
The opening chapter is based 4 months after the end of Captive in the Dark and I was thrown a little off-kilter, as it’s obvious from the outset that a major turn of events has transpired, however, as the book continues it is clear that Olivia is telling her story; divulging the events of her kidnapping to two FBI Agents.
Immediately, my heart dropped to my gut. Seriously… Where the hell was Caleb? I knew then that this book was dragging me under and I was powerless to stop it – Hook, Line and Sinker! Which ultimately had me pulling an all-nighter. Yes, 5:30am I went to bed, and was up at 7:30am for work, but my goodness, was it worth it!
Caleb knew his mission, it was simple and regardless of his own confusion when it comes of desires unknown for his beautiful captive, he has to let Olivia, his ‘Kitten’ go. He was due to meet Rafiq in a few days, and so it was time to embark to the safe house in Mexico to continue her training.
Still weak and in pain from her previous vicious attempted rape attack, Livvie understands that it is ‘better the devil you know,’ and after Caleb’s heroic attempt at her rescue, she finds a newfound respect for her kidnapper, and regardless of how hurtful and insensitive Caleb can be, the thought of leaving him is terrifying.
Upon arrival at the house, owned by Felipe, a business partner of Rafiq’s, it appears that a party is in full swing. Slaves are humiliated, admired and shared. Scenes are played for the ogling guests and the spectacle is enough to throw Livvie into emotional turmoil, and Caleb into a world where he would once have called home, into a conflicted nightmare. Promising to protect ‘Kitten,’ he keeps her close only to then have his worries escalated when he meets with Rafiq and he makes his plans for ‘Kitten’ very clear.
As time continues on, Caleb makes the decision that whatever feelings are brewing between them has to stop, therefore his only choice he has to save her and himself is to re-commence his training and make her the slave that she was always intended to be.
Olivia however, through all the gruelling hardships, and demeaning scenarios she is subjected to, cannot shake the reality that she is falling in love with Caleb, and deep down truly believes he doesn’t want to do this, but his inner demons are too strong, dragging its claws into his broken soul so only a monster remains, makes it harder and harder to reach out to him. Although she knows the truth, he is no monster, whatever horrors he is harbouring - is what made him.
Meanwhile, her story in the present time is cooking up a shit storm, and opening up a huge can of worms for the FBI. Matthew Reed, the investigator in the case is enthralled and appalled by Olivia’s story, and what started as a strained relationship between the two starts to manifest into a mutual respect for each other. With Olivia’s help, he learns that a ‘human trafficking’ auction is approaching in Pakistan and his mission is to catch Rafiq and his associates before it’s too late.
I will leave it there… I don’t want to give any else away. This book will leave you in a tailspin, and the interwoven voices of Olivia, Caleb and Matthew makes for one incredible story. At times it was difficult to read, and at the 67% mark my heart was breaking for Olivia. I wanted to hate Caleb, but couldn’t because snippets of the truth behind his past filter through the pages and at one point, I wanted to commit serious book murder! One character will make you seethe beyond measure.
C.J. Roberts is a true storyteller, a magical weaver of words that will have you gasping and leaves a residual enchantment on the soul of the reader, long after the last word has been read. I salute you. By taking a gamble and putting your heart and soul into a controversial yet incredible 'unconventional' love story that is gripping, written beautifully and incredibly well told!
5 Mega huge fat shiny handcuffs are not enough, but it will do.
BOOK ONE OF THE DARK DUET
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.
BOOK TWO OF THE DARK DUET
The exciting, titillating, and action-filled conclusion to Captive in the Dark.
What is the price of redemption?
Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.
The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.
Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?
Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?
It seemed to Caleb, the nature of human beings revolved around one empirical truth: we want what we cannot have. For Eve, it was the fruit of the forbidden tree. For Caleb, it was Livvie.
BOOK 3 OF THE DARK DUET
(The final version should have 15 Chapters + an epilogue)
I’m writing this because you begged. You know how I love the begging. In fact, you probably know too many things and know them far too well.
Who am I?
Well, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I was a whore in my youth, a killer since my adolescence, and a monster as a man. I am the man who kidnapped Livvie. I am the man who held her in a dark room for weeks. But, most importantly, I am the man she loves.
She loves me. It’s quite sick, isn’t it?
Of course, there’s more to our story than can be surmised in a few short sentences, but I’m at a loss for justifying my behavior back then. I assume if you’re reading this, I don’t need to make those justifications. You’ve already made your own.
You’re reading this because you want to know about the rest of the story. You want to know what happened that warm summer night in September of 2010, the night I met Livvie at The Paseo. It was the night my life changed all over again.
It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story. The truth is far more…complicated.
Epilogue (The Dark Duet #3)
Kelly - 5 handcuffs
Words are failing me right now. I am in 'the zone.
You know the one... 'Total book elation.'
I need to regroup and process my thoughts, my feelings and strive
to articulate a sentence that makes sense and projects how this book
just leaped into my top ten favourites of 2013.
Well...this series is in my top ten, there is no denying it and yet
I question myself with that revelation.
Let's be honest, this trilogy is not even hitting the shaded grey area,
this is way off the colour chart! It's dark and deep and terrifying and yet somehow, somewhere, I found glimpses of beauty within that. Livvie May have been his Captive, but Caleb also captivated me in ways I cannot possibly comprehend.
...Oh Caleb, your words, your articulation, your naivety of the real outside world gave me chills. I immediately felt the need to nurture and protect, guide him with a loving hand.
This man is redemption personified. He is a monster, but more importantly he is also a victim and that message rings loud and audibly clear in this epilogue as he tries his hand at finding the man that has been held captive inside the monster as he learns the truth...as he struggles to leave 'Caleb' behind and embrace this new 'free' existence as James Cole.
This story didn't feel like a curtain call. A finality. It felt like the beginning. A new beginning for two souls who connected in the most abhorrent of circumstances and yet one that defied the normal order. Because Love knows no boundaries. This is not a romance story, this is a story about love and yet there are no happy endings for forever after's, there is only acceptance and forgiveness...and with that comes a sense of peace and belonging.
A stunning portrayal of how one man came from the darkest of shadows and walked bravely into the light, into the arms of his captive. The woman who held his heart and never looked back.
If anything it proves one thing - all it takes is the love of a good woman to fill that void and the possibilities, the hopes and dreams of a future, are endless...
Okay... so much for being speechless...This has pretty much turned into a review in itself, even though it's not perfect, I guess that's kind of my point. This protagonist in all his forms is nowhere near perfect but that's what I love about him. He is so broken its almost impossible not to like him, and yet in this epilogue you fall completely in love with him as you experience Caleb/James in a whole new light.
CJ Roberts, you have blown my mind figuratively and literally with this trilogy. Caleb and Livvie will remain two of my favourite characters of all time. Maybe Caleb is right... maybe I am a sick fuck to feel that connection to him, but I can't thank you enough for making me FEEL it. Your writing holds no prisoners and yet it's execution is totally flawless. I am awed by it. So thank you for taking the plunge into these dark infested waters and giving us a story that we will never forget.
