A Stone In The Sea (Bleeding Stars, #1)
by A.L Jackson
"Atmospherically dark and brooding, with the perfect balance of light and innocence. A treasure of a read if you love tortured rock stars!" ~ Kelly, Perusing Princesses
A Stone in the Sea is beautifully written, holding an air of dark melancholy. A love affair shrouded in hope, while lingering on a precarious edge of hurt, guilt and confusion. A story of finding light, a sweet memory amongst deep-seated darkness due to past actions in a world that doesn't forget.
'All my life I'd worked to make sure no one owned me. I'd thought it'd be music that would set me free. Then I'd just turned around and sold my soul to the devil.' ~ Sebastian Stone
His name, past sins, forever immortalised, splashed across newspapers and many gossip sites. Sebastian Stone aka 'Baz' is known to hundreds of thousands, yet in one small town in Savannah, Georgia, he is a nobody who captures the heart of a young single Mother who becomes his world.
'I've got her. And I did. Just for a little while, I'd had her. And for a little while, she'd made me forget.' ~ Baz
'I clung to him, a selfish part of me wishing for a way to reach up and drag him over the edge with me. Most of all, I wanted him to jump.' ~ Shea
AL Jackson has really shone a light on her talent as a writer with A Stone in the Sea, the prose beautifully constructed with a poetic feel. The emotions bleed onto the page, unravelling snippets of past and current events at a pace that pulls you in and keeps you enthralled until the very end, then knocks you sideways with that cutting and shocking twist that leaves you literally begging for book two.
Sebastian Stone is one character you just want to fix. He is irreparably troubled. Bad tempered, simmering with hatred for the few that have done him and his younger Brother wrong. Still swimming in grief over the loss of his best friend, Mark, Sebastian is lost. His outlet and only success of his young life is that of his band, Sunder. But even then... cancelling a world tour due to a fisty fall out with a producer of his record company has put the boys on secret downtime, and when in hiding, he just never believed he would find a part of himself along the way.
Shea Bentley works the night shift at her Uncle's club, Charlies. Her life may look straightforward to some but it is anything but simple, and it's about to get a whole lot more complicated as she desperately tries to ignore the distraction that just walked in the door. All beautiful, brooding and very dangerous...and temptation is hard to resist.
This isn't a dark romance by any means, but my goodness does it rank high up there on the angst factor. It is atmospherically dark and brooding, with the perfect balance of light and innocence.
A real treasure of a read and a must if you love tortured rock stars!
